“Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed.” – Ecclesiastes 4:9 (NLT)

What is Life Coaching?

The word coach was first used to described a horse-drawn vehicle – a stage coach that could take people from where they were to where they wanted to be. A modern bus (also referred to as a coach) does the same thing. Coaches are also people who help athletes and sports teams move from one place to another that is better. A coaches guides others to enhance their skills and reach their goals. But coaches also help musicians, dancers, public speakers and actors to improve their skills, overcome obstacles, remain focused, and get to where they want to be.

Christian coaching is the art and practice of working with a person or group in the process of moving from where they are to where God wants them to be.

Why would someone want a coach?

Coaching helps people who desire to
  • Get unstuck & move forward
  • Build their confidence
  • Expand their vision for the future
  • Fulfill their dreams
  • Unlock their potential
  • Increase their skills
  • Move through transitions
  • Take practical steps toward their goals

How does coaching differ from counseling?

Unlike counseling or therapy that focuses on helping individuals overcome painful influences from the past, coaching helps people build vision and move toward the future. Coaching is not about looking back; it’s about looking ahead. Coaching is not about healing; it’s about growing. Coaching uses tools of Positive Psychology by recognizing and building on a person’s strengths more than overcoming their weaknesses.

What happens in Coaching?

Every coaching situation is unique but usually coaches will begin by taking inventory of where the person is at present (strengths, weaknesses, abilities, interests, passions, spiritual gifts, values, worldviews, hopes and dreams). Then they will begin exploring the issues that the person wants to change. Sometimes the person wants to be a better leader, more effective, or find greater fulfillment with a clearer perspective about where to go in the future. A life purpose coach will assist Christians in discovering God’s design and purpose for their lives. Often the coach will use assessment tools to enable people to learn more about themselves and help them to clearly define their life’s mission.

Coaches help clients set goals and take action steps toward reaching their goals. They also hold their clients accountable for moving forward toward accomplishing the desired results. When obstacles get in the way, coaches challenge, encourage, and motivate the person to grow past the obstacles and experience success. A coach can help you see the bigger picture and give support as you move forward.

A Christian Coach is your prayer partner and chief encourager, listening to your concerns and asking questions to allow you to gain clarity on your situation, get you past mental blocks, and realize your God given potential.
